Its designation as the State Science Center of Kentucky in 2002 underscored Kentucky Science Center’s history of reaching all audiences through its mission to DO SCIENCE in ways that are engaging, educational, and entertaining to inspire a lifetime of learning Job Description The Kentucky Science Center is seeking seasonal Camp Counselors for our Summer 2024 School’s Out Science Camp program.
We are seeking patient, dependable, high-energy individuals with an enthusiasm to “Do Science!”.
As a Camp Counselor you will ensure that campers experience a stimulating and fun learning environment at the Kentucky Science Center in the classroom, while in our exhibits, and on any field trips.
You will assist Teachers with implementing activities, help maintain a safe classroom, and work closely with children of all ages with a maximum of 25 campers per class.
Responsibilities: Help Camp Teachers provide a safe and engaging instructional environment in and outside of the classroom.
Assist campers with activities and material preparation in groups or individually.
Assist the teacher in classroom preparation and cleaning.
Assist with health and safety of the campers by evaluating and treating minor incidents and informing Camp Staff Leads of any incidents.
Assist with registration and other daily duties per Camp Staff Leads.
Assist with pulling supplies and preparation of classrooms.
Communicate with parents, visitors, and non-camp staff.
Support teaches in fostering an inclusive classroom environment for all campers, staff, and volunteers Qualifications Essential Requirements Must be available to work a full-day camp setting, five days a week.
Weekdays: 7:50-4:20 or 8:30-5:00, May 27 – August 2, 2024 Counselors are NOT required to commit to all 10 weeks of camp but are required to commit to a FULL WEEK of work (Mon-Fri).
Prefer applicants who can commit to at least 4 weeks of camp.
If selected, Camp Counselors are required to attend an in-person orientation May 18 & May 19, 2024.
At least 18 years of age.
Working experience with pre-school, elementary, or middle school age children, preferably in a recreational setting.
Excellent communication and organization skills with an enthusiastic and flexible attitude Must have the ability to work in a physically fast paced environment that includes navigating multiple floors of exhibit spaces and manipulating a variety of supplies throughout the shift.
Must pass a criminal background check.
Commitment to advancing Kentucky Science Center’s anti-racist and anti-white supremacist values Must have an enthusiasm for working with children with the ability to adapt to changing situation and react calmly under pressure.
Applicant must be comfortable communicating with parents/caregivers on a daily basis.
Ability to motivate and inspire others, especially children of all ages.

Salary range of $16-$16.
