POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

YMCA Lifeguard certification or non-YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification
Minimum age of 18
Excellent oral and written communication skills
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uphold the Mission of the YMCA
Maintain all required certifications
Take complete responsibility for scheduled hours and, if necessary, follow the appropriate substitute procedures and cover shifts when necessary
Teach YMCA Lifeguard courses regularly
Follow YMCA of the USA training guidelines
Complete course paperwork in a timely manner, including submitting certification paperwork to YMCA of the USA
Assist in Lifeguard shift coverage when possible
Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required by the Aquatics Director
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to pass lifeguard instruction certification course
Must be able to remain alert
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision
Ability to demonstrate strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue
Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
Work in a wet/humid environment and come into contact with chlorine.
Exposure to indoor or outdoor elements
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Noise level-High
STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

As a key member of the Aquatics team, this position teaches YMCA Lifeguard courses according to the YMCA of the USA training design.
The purpose of this position is to provide a positive role model for members and students as well as fellow aquatic staff and to create a character-developing atmosphere while promoting best practices for aquatic safety.
