Description Essential Functions: Inspects, investigates, and monitors businesses and citizens to enforce compliance with air pollution and environmental laws and regulations Grants extensions and exemptions, issues warnings and citations to citizens and businesses; and serves warrants and summons regarding violations Examples of Duties Examples of Work: UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION GENERAL Grants extensions and exemptions, issues warnings and citations to citizens and businesses; and serves warrants and summons regarding violations of air pollution and environmental standards and regulations Prepares correspondence and reports of inspections and investigations and maintains records and files Collects samples, compiles evidence, and testifies in court and at pre-trial conferences Provides information to the public concerning the procedures to follow to gain compliance with air pollution regulations and standards ASBESTOS ABATEMENT Inspects and investigates asbestos demolition and renovation sites for violations and to enforce compliance with air pollution and environmental laws and regulations Issues permits, and monitors and audits asbestos contractors for compliance requirements COMMUNITY COMPLIANCE Investigates community complaints regarding air pollution Observes emissions in ambient air, from open burning, area and stationary sources, small businesses and equipment to assure compliance with laws, regulations and ordinances Investigates sources of excessive visible pollutants and other sources of suspect air pollution and environmental violations Monitors and audits businesses for compliance with regulations and standards Investigates open burning Performs related work Minimum Requirements Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree Agriculture Biology Business Administration Chemistry Communications Environmental Science Geology Mathematics Meteorology Physics Social Science Related field Other Minimums: GENERAL Must provide one's own source of transportation Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA Must be a US Citizen Must be a minimum of 21 years of age Must not have been convicted of a felony Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license Must be eligible for certification as a State Peace Officer ASBESTOS ABATEMENT Must submit to an annual pulmonary medical exam Equivalency: Environmental investigation and enforcement experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education up to a maximum of two years Special Requirements: COMMUNITY COMPLIANCE Must possess a Certificate in Visible Emission Evaluation issued by the State of Kentucky or obtain within six months of employment KSAs: Skill in written and oral communication Louisville Metro Government is committed to providing our employees with the tools they need to lead a fit and healthy life.
