Frost Brown Todd LLP, a national law firm with 1000+ legal and business professionals in sixteen offices, is currently searching for a full-time Attorney Career Manager to join our firm.
The Attorney Career Manager will focus on the long-term career path of firm attorneys with primary responsibility for the evaluation and compensation process.
Job responsibilities include: Managing the Associate Personnel Committee (APC) processes including the evaluation and advancement processes and bonus programs and develop and coordinate performance evaluation best practices training and communications.
Working with Partner chaired Committee to solicit and review feedback for lawyers, schedule and help facilitate meetings, monitor evaluation messages and their delivery, and follow-up on lawyers requiring coaching, mentoring, or training.
Serving as subject matter expert for viDesktop working closely with Legal Talent and IT colleagues to set up and manage evaluation forms and systems, including drafting process communications and providing training and troubleshooting on system applications as needed.
Reviewing all evaluations to identify comments of concern, improve feedback and identify opportunities for coaching lawyers on effective and meaningful feedback.
Supporting the Partner Personnel Committee at the direction of the Chief Legal Talent Officer through gathering and auditing data, managing the annual evaluation process, and assisting with advancement decisions.
Tracking associate data (billable hours, compensation, investment time, and advancement metrics) for spotting concerns and identifying trends for practice and firm management.
Interacting with Firm attorneys, Practice Group Leaders, and Firm Management to support meaningful performance feedback processes.
Administering legal personnel processes related to status changes, payroll issues and compensation policy questions, and client secondments (separate from the First Year Program).
Supporting associate and staff attorney employee relations situations with practice management, Employment Counsel and the Chief Legal Talent Officer.
Collaborating with the Professional Development team to ensure career development needs are assessed and appropriate training and initiatives are offered.
Supporting firm DEI initiatives in developing, advancing, and retaining lawyers in support of the firm’s strategic plan.
Monitoring and supporting the tracking of associate compensation components to ensure market competitiveness.
Identifying and developing outplacement solutions for associates suited by skill set or desire to go on to other positions aligned with the firm goals.
Supporting the Associate Work Integration program processes in coordination with the Professional Development and Integration Director, including driving usage, monitoring results, and providing guidance and support to Work Consultants, practice management, and participants.
Facilitating career discussions, monitoring performance meetings, following up on goals/issues, and monitoring and managing the talent pipeline in consultation with Practice Services Management.
Job Requirements: College degree required.
Law firm experience in evaluation and compensation processes required, with 3+ years in a similarly situated law firm preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to manage and run committees and meetings against tight timelines.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
Ability to understand unconscious bias and its effect on employee relations and employment decisions.
Active listening skills and the ability to acquire and provide meaningful communication and resources.
Ability to work well with everyone at all levels in all offices within the Firm.
Proven success in managing projects and juggling multiple priorities without supervision.
Ability to leverage technology, including video conferencing, firm software, spreadsheets, computer, and economic tools to support attorney career management.
Ability to travel to Firm offices as needed by car or plane.
Travel estimated at 10-15%.
